About Hamesorah

Rooted in Mesorah. Developed in the classroom. Built to help every child progress in Kriah.

Hamesorah is a complete Kriah system for teachers, parents, and schools. It brings together structured curriculum materials, practical training, classroom routines, assessments, professional guidance, and helpful resources.

Rabbi Avrohom Schtroks, founder of Hamesorah

Hamesorah began in the classroom. Through more than a decade I have taught Kriah at Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, later in Monsey, and currently at Cheder Menachem of Kingston, Pennsylvania.

I have worked with children at many different levels and observed the challenges teachers face throughout the Kriah process.

Those experiences shaped my understanding of how Kriah should be taught and eventually led to the development of Hamesorah.

How Hamesorah Began

When I first began teaching Kriah, I searched for someone who could guide me through the complete classroom process.

I wanted practical direction. How should each skill be introduced? Which classroom routines should be established? How should mistakes be corrected? How can one teacher guide children at different levels toward accurate and fluent reading?

Although experienced teachers possessed a tremendous amount of valuable knowledge, I could not find one complete and accessible training process that brought all these areas together.

I therefore made a personal commitment: if a new Kriah teacher ever asked me for help, I would sit down with him and share what I had learned.

“If a new Kriah teacher ever asked me for help, I would sit down with him and share what I had learned.”

From Individual Guidance to Hamesorah

Over the years, I continued learning through my own classroom experience and through extensive conversations with Kriah teachers from different schools and communities. I also had the opportunity to learn from experienced mechanchim of the older generation their traditions, techniques, and years of classroom knowledge.

What began as personal guidance for individual teachers gradually became more organized. Those conversations eventually developed into a complete Kriah teacher-training course. From that course, Hamesorah grew.

Today, Hamesorah is a complete Kriah system for teachers, parents, and schools. Every part of the system is rooted in the traditional Mesorah of teaching Alef-Beis and Nekudos while providing the structure, clarity, and practical guidance needed for today’s classrooms and homes.

Hamesorah supports Kriah instruction through four primary areas:

Materials

Seforim, posters, and tools for every stage of Kriah

Training

Comprehensive training for accurate Kriah instruction.

Services

Assessments and guidance for Kriah challenges.

Resources

Kriah resources and downloads for every step of Kriah.

The Development of Derech LeKriah

As Hamesorah developed, I realized that training alone was not enough. Teachers also needed a Sefer that placed the approach directly into their hands and provided a clear path through each stage of Kriah instruction.

This led me to create Derech LeKriah, a structured two-volume curriculum that guides children gradually from learning the Nekudos and developing accurate decoding skills toward confident Siddur reading and fluency.

Derech LeKriah reflects the principles that guide all Hamesorah materials: clear instruction, gradual progression, focused practice, consistent review, and an attractive, child-friendly presentation.

Helping Teachers Build Strong Readers

Hamesorah continues to grow through classroom experience, collaboration with dedicated Kriah educators, and knowledge transmitted by earlier generations.

The purpose of Hamesorah is to give every teacher a clear path through the Kriah process and every child the opportunity to develop accurate, confident, fluent, and lasting Kriah.
